James’ career to date spans 30 years, resulting in a broad experience across industry sectors and procurement arrangements from ‘high end’ residential to educational establishments and prominent commercial and public entertainment/leisure venues for ‘blue chip’ clients and leading project management organisations, with a career highlight undertaking a senior management role in the feasibility, design coordination, procurement and successful delivery of the London Eye Millennium Project.
James has been a member of The Chartered Institute of Building since 1992 and has also been a participant of the selection panel for the interview and assessment of new candidates for membership.
In 2004 James established Surrey Oak Barns in Witley, Surrey. The success of this business has been as a result of James’ highly developed professional approach, experience, technical knowledge and attention to detail, thus ensuring that clients’ aims and aspirations are carefully determined and delivered. James established Upfold Construction in 2009 as he identified the need of clients for a general building contractor with a professional approach. Upfold Construction works alongside Surrey Oak Barns Ltd, a company of which James is also Managing Director and who for many years has successfully constructed oak framed garages, barns, extensions and domestic dwellings. In October 2015, due to expansion, we moved to our current premises in Cranleigh.
As Managing Director James takes an active part in overseeing and directing all projects, working with:
Site Manager, who joined Upfold Construction in 2009. Tony has been in the building profession for over 25 years and is an experienced builder, having knowledge of all aspects of the profession. Tony manages all our projects and our team of specialist craftsmen.
Assistant Project Manager, joined us in November 2016 with over 11 years experience in the construction sector. Jamie assists James and works with Tony to ensure all projects are delivered to our clients’ satisfaction. Jamie is also our Health & Safety Officer.
Our finance and administration team consists of Julia and Jane, both of whom have gained considerable experience within SMEs.
